The Importance of Rain

This rain of late is direly needed

By a farming state whose supply is depleted

For though it’s tough to think of today

The drought is rough, without rain it will stay

It haunts farmers like a ghoul in the night

A farm without water is quite a fright

So all we can do is hope and pray

That this rain of late is here to stay

California's Water System

Snow hits the mountains

Melts and flows to lakes and streams

Supplies our water

The Golden Hills

The evening light hits the valley

Glows across a fallowed farm

Months needing water are over the tally

They’re beginning to bring great harm

The grassy knolls turn dry with heat

Giving the Golden State its name

The only water is for the farming elite

For crops that give California fame
